ProteeVX

🧐 ProteeVX Review: A Hidden Gem in the Overhead Launch Monitor Game

If you’ve never heard of the ProteeVX before, you’re not alone. It’s not nearly as hyped as Uneekor or Foresight, but honestly? It deserves more love. This overhead launch monitor quietly punches way above its weight — and for solo golfers or smaller sim setups, it might just be the best value play out there.

We’ve had the ProteeVX in our commercial sim facility for about a year, and while we eventually swapped it out for something else (we’ll get to that), it left a strong impression — especially for the price.

🏢 Who Makes It?

ProTee United is based in the Netherlands, and they’ve been around the simulator space for quite a while. They’re best known for their flexible, modular sim setups — and the VX is their modern answer to the high-end camera-based monitor.

It may not have the same marketing clout as Trackman or Uneekor, but they’ve built a rock-solid reputation in the sim DIY crowd. And after using their gear in a real-world setting, we can confirm — they take care of their customers.

🎯 Accuracy & Data: Surprisingly Deep

Let’s talk numbers. The ProteeVX gives you a lot of data:

  • Ball speed
  • Launch angle
  • Side angle
  • Spin rate
  • Carry & total distance
  • Clubhead speed
  • Club path
  • Face angle
  • Attack angle

Here’s what really impressed us — you get all that without any club stickers. Just swing. No dots, no reflective tape, no nonsense. Club data felt accurate most of the time, though attack angle could sometimes be a little suspicious. That said, for the price? You’re getting ridiculous value.

And the impact camera? Chef’s kiss. Being able to review the exact moment of contact in full detail is a huge plus for both instruction and tinkering.

🔧 Setup & Space

Like all overhead units, you’ll need ceiling height — plan on at least 9’ if possible — and a decent-sized hitting area (10’ x 10’ is a good start). It mounts cleanly overhead and stays out of the way, which we love.

We learned the hard way that you absolutely want a protective case. One of our customers blasted a ball dead into the VX lens before we had one. ProTee support was amazing — sent us a prepaid label, fixed the unit, and had it back within a week. All free. No drama.

Still, that $300 protective case? Worth every penny.

💻 Software & User Experience

The included Protee Labs software is clean, modern, and super easy to navigate. For one user, it’s fantastic — responsive UI, no unnecessary fluff, just data and visuals.

But here’s the trade-off: it doesn’t have individual logins or cloud accounts, so you can’t really track performance over time unless you’re exporting through GSPro’s range. If you’re running lessons or want to email reports, you’ll need to use GSPro or another 3rd-party system.

Also, while the software supports swing cameras, there’s currently no way to export swing videos or overlay tracers like Uneekor’s AI tools. So yeah — the basics are there, but no flash.

💰 Total Cost Breakdown

  • ProteeVX Unit: ~$6,500
  • Protective Case: ~$300 (recommended)
  • Mounting Hardware: ~$100+
  • PC (Windows): ~$1,000
  • Optional software: GSPro ($250/year) or TGC 2019 ($995 one-time)
  • Hitting Bay, Screen, Mat, Projector: variable ($2,000–5,000+)

👉 All in? You’re probably looking at $9k–$11k for a complete sim build with the VX — making it one of the most affordable overhead options around.

👍 Pros & 👎 Cons

Pros:

  • Incredible value for an overhead unit
  • No club or ball markings needed
  • Great built-in software for practice
  • Excellent customer support
  • Includes impact camera
  • No annual software fees

Cons:

  • No user accounts for saving sessions
  • Limited swing video tools (no export, no tracer)
  • Attack angle can be hit-or-miss
  • Protective case sold separately (but necessary)

🤔 Who’s It For?

  • Home users who want a ceiling-mounted system without dropping $10k+
  • Tinkerers or coaches who don’t need login features
  • Sim golfers who want accurate data and GSPro compatibility without subscription costs

It’s not the flashiest unit — but it does the job really well. If you’re flying solo and want performance without the fluff, this one’s worth a serious look.

We only upgraded to the Eye XO because we needed customer logins and access to more advanced tools like AI swing analysis. But if that’s not your thing? The VX might just be your endgame.

🔄 Compared to Other Overhead Monitors

To make this mobile-friendly, we’ve broken the comparison into individual cards for each launch monitor. This way, you won’t need to pinch and zoom like you’re reading a restaurant menu under candlelight.

🏁 Final Verdict

The ProteeVX is quietly one of the best values in the launch monitor world. If you’re a solo golfer who wants accuracy, visuals, and overhead simplicity — without subscriptions or sticker shock — it’s hard to beat.

It’s not quite there yet for heavy-duty instruction or commercial use where accounts and reports matter, but for personal setups? It’s a home run.

Just buy the case. Trust us on that one.
